Chicago March On Washington

We understand that there might of been differences between those who supported the March on Washington and those who did not. However, it is now time to move on and build cooperation in building a more democratic structure in terms of LGBT politics in Illinois and beyond.

There will be those who will have problems with differences of opinion. These individuals should not be our focus rather it is our hope that we can build from the enegry of the March On Washington, and involve a whole new generation of LGBT activits both young on old, straight and lgbt, female and male, people of color, and people of faith, and yes even family and friends.

A Call For Unity

A time to come together, old, young, women, men, black, white, brown and people of faith, all us I hope have or should have a stake in the March on Washington for LGBT rights. My journey through life has taught me a significant lesson which is this movement has a life of its own. We are a global community bordering on a beautiful awakening if only we believe in ourselves, and treat others as we would like to be treated. Agree with the March, or disagree remember we are all part of the same movement.

The Tensions in our Community around the issue of our present and past Marches On Washington are reflective of a vibrant community’s capacity to dialogue about Justice. If these marches belong to anyone they belong to all of us. This march is not about any single individual or organization, nor is about being a Democrat or Republican, in my opinion it is about a movement of people who are responding to the ancient call for justice.

In this movement of people there are many rivers of thought that will eventually end up in the ocean of community. We must learn to listen to each other. That can become problematic when name calling replaces the search for common ground. Each of us are entitled to our opinions, but where is written that each opinion must agree with the other. People it is time to play nice.

All I can do is invite others to join my lover of 30 years, and myself as we celebrate our rainbow community in Washington DC. I have marched at each of the past marches, and each one benefited the participants, and the ripple effect was felt in Congress.

The clear message I hope we are sending is twofold first that we will continue to March until congress and the President get it right, and secondly that this March replaces fear with hope.

There are many supportive individuals and groups organizing for the March in Chicago pick one to support or not. Just remember the largest groups at all of our past Marches were individuals who were willing to put their feet where their mouths are. I look forward to seeing you in Washington, DC.
